The big concert night finally came after 18 months of anticipation! It was supposed to be a year ago; but, then got postponed when Bono had emergency back surgery. But, as he said in the show.."they are so much better this year anyway!" (then referring to himself as Robo-Bono :}) Suzanne, who is the biggest U2 Fan I've ever known, has had us all pumped up & was absolutely determined she was going to find a way on stage. Unfortunately, Suz had to go out of town for work, and couldn't get out of it....so sadly she had to miss it. Well, kind of.....the good friends that we are just couldn't not have her there with us. So, instead, we took "Mini-Suz-On-A-Stick"! (yea, we entertain ourselves easily! :})
I think Jules & Suz are ready for the show!
CHEERS!
Long story short, there ended up being an extra ticket last minute, so we pretty much just told Tina that she was going with us after all (who was going to take Suz' ticket until it got lost anyway :( )
"We're on our way!" :}
"Hurry & get your ticket...the train is coming!"
Let me just say everyone we encountered along the way also found this to be very entertaining! She met all kinds of new friends, like Ike here! :}
We finally made it after a slightly crazy evening of trying to get there; but, at least before U2 started!
OK, seriously.....this was an AMAZING stage (AKA: The Claw) & production. As Bono is very much involved in World Peace & social awareness, we saw a # of statistics on the big video screen, which scrolled numerous factoids from number of births today, the barrels of oil pumped today, number of cell phones sold today to the number of video games played online. The band even threw in local statistics such as Salt Lake County's unemployment rate and a running count of how many people had entered Rice-Eccles Stadium (50,000 as of 15 minutes before the show).
A few others from "our crew" were there as well (and still sorry we never found you Kathleen! :})
Look who we did find!...."Hi Julie!" :}
The show began with Peter Shilling's "Major Tom" playing & the Rocket in the middle of the claw taking off
As I mentioned, this was an amazing stage/LED Video Screen. Not only would you see great visuals; but, no matter where you sat, you could get great views of the band close up!
Where the stage went all the way around, you ready had a great view (at least anywhere in General Admission, from what I could see)
So, another cool part of the stage was these bridges on each side, that would also go around in a big circle (hence the "360 Tour :}). Quite the involved set up! But, again, gave everyone a chance to see them closer up.
Can I just say, Bono is incredible!
The three luckiest girls ever! These sisters have followed their tour, I believe attending 15 other shows (so, ok, I guess they deserve to get called on stage! :}). He had them read a poem about Utah. I loved how much he spoke of his admiration for our beautiful city! :}
Another part of this awesome stage was how the video screen expanded like an accordion. I was just in awe with the lights & all that was going on!
We all got to join in with singing Happy Birthday to their friend & fellow musician, Bob Dylan, who turned 70 this day
In true U2 Fashion, they talked/sang about the wars & crises around the world

He did a nice dedication to Aung San Suu Kyi, who had been under house arrest in Burma, for standing up for what she believed in & fighting for her country.
After 20 years, she was finally released last November & personally thanked U2 & Amnesty International for keeping her name out there & fighting the fight.
Again, what an incredibly amazing production this was. So glad I got to experience the thrill!!
