Mexico Adventure: Chapter 6-Our Fun Day Of Touring Manzanillo

You've all ready heard me talk about the wonderful people who took such great care of us. Now let me tell you about our drivers, Jose, Alejandro & Daniel (who owns the vehicles & was in the other car; but, I don't have any pics of him, darn). In first planning our trip, we were going to take the bus down. I saw these buses, and I also saw/experienced these roads...so, hallelujah for finding another option! :} We then found out about a company who would drive us down (remember this was 260ish miles one way), sounded good to us. Then, while discussing details with the agent, she talked about these guys who always drove them when needed. So, we trusted her & again, couldn't have been happier with the service. From the moment of picking us up from the airport, they made sure we were all there, at all moments. Even on pit stops at a bathroom, the gas station, whatever....they kept a good eye on us, and made us feel completely safe & comfortable in their country. I know there's a lot of danger in Mexico too; but, it's sad what a bad rap it gets. We experienced nothing but nice, genuine people! These guys went beyond just being safe drivers. Though they didn't speak much English, they made sure we were not getting fooled/ripped off wherever we were. I did have to laugh at Jose though, on the way down. If asked how much longer (like a bunch of kids asking mom & dad :}), he'd say 15 min. Two hours later, he just laughed and basically told us it sounded like a good answer & would tell us just another 15 minutes & we're there! Ha Ha :}). So, we could call them anytime, while at the home, if we needed to go anywhere. We had to see what the town was like, so we took them shopping with us. (since the other half was on their boat trip, we just had the one car with Alenjandro & Jose this time). Again, we were so grateful for them making sure we got good deals, and were always safe.
Heading in to the town square
I loved the topiaries along the road, that were all trimmed in characters, or fun designs.
The town square
Cool sculpture in the bay there
This is a port town, so it was cool to see all the ships & vessels Before hitting the shops, we needed a pit stop & get a nice slushy fresh lemonade.
We enjoyed street entertainment while busy spending our pesos!
These guys just played along, let us dress them up in fun hats. Here's Alejandro looking pretty in his pink hat! :}
Jose gets pretty purple! :}
Sweet Holly was so kind to buy them each their own hat, of their choice this time. They were a couple of Rico Suave's with those hats on! :}
We were enjoying all the shops, and getting to experience the power of bargaining! :}
Tracy showing me the new "Julie & Jeff" doll :}
So, after getting our share of the town square, they then took us to the mall, in an attempt to find a Mexican Team Soccer shirt. The World Cup Series had been going on, so it was fun to share the thrill of watching Mexico win & move on, with a bunch of the local townspeople.
We were just having a fun day, so we weren't ready to head back yet. We talked them into taking us to the restaurant that Jose works at. He was talking about how good their clams are, so we wanted to try them out ourselves (and get a good margarita! :}). This gave us a chance to experience "True Authentic Mexico", not just the tourist spots/sites; but, to see what it's like in your average little town. I loved it, it was a great experience! (just wish they took us there 1st since the shopping was much better there, despite our great bargains! :})
I heard what sounded like, the ice cream truck coming around, to see it was "the bread truck".
We let them escort us in, so they'd feel extra special in front of their friends! :}
His restaurant was right there on the beach. We remembered seeing all these umbrellas when we passed by on the boat ride.
We had the best guacamole & salsa while we waited (well, as good as the one they made at the house from Marty. It IS the place for that! :})
We got to go back to check out the grill & the crew. So, we walked across the street to this little shack. Just not your local Applebees! :}
We enjoyed meeting the chefs :}
"Anyone want lobster?" :}
We got the Mexican Serenade while enjoying our clams
Lisa wasn't sure about these; but, decided she had to try it!
Good job Lisa! :}
The food was absolutely delicious & we were so glad we got to go for this extra treat too! Oh, what another fun day this was! I really hope to make it back there sometime. I would love my kids to get this kind of experience. It makes you appreciate your own living all the more!
